OpenOffice Writer

The OpenOffice Writer is the primary editor used in creating the Lesson Plans presented here. It has the ability to open and save files in Microsoft Office format, as well as the default Open Document format. It is available on several platforms including Linux and Windows.

AbiWord

AbiWord is another open source word processing program. Like OpenOffice, it is available for several platforms, including Windows and Linux. In addition to its own file format, AbiWord can also open and save documents in Open Document format.

KOffice

KOffice is a complete open source office suite for the Linux platform. Designed for use on the KDE desktop, it offers a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation program, database and more. Like the editors listed above, KOffice can also save documents in the OpenDocument format.

Scribus is less a word processor and more a desktop publishing tool. It is very powerful and offers the user a multitude of options. It is also available on the Linux or Windows platforms.

This web site offers a information concerning the Open Document format as approved by the ISO. Nearly any question you may have concerning how the Open Document format works and how it can be applied can be answered here


Open Source Fonts
The Open Fonts Web Site

This web site offers a wide assortment of open source fonts that you can use in your documents. Many of these are "True Type Fonts" (TTF) allowing them to be used on both Linux and Windows computer systems.


Lesson Plans
As part of the Total Quality Management for Emergency Services project, we are creating lesson plans to accompany the text book and the presentations. The lesson plans will be the third phase of this project, with the text book being completed first, followed by the presentations. As lesson plans are completed they will be made available here.

Below is a listing of lesson plans we are looking at creating and offering here at the TQM for Emergency Services project. The Document Manager is where you can review all of the lesson plans for all of the courses that are currently available. The lesson plans are made available in the Open Document Format as well as for the Adobe Acrobat (pdf) format.
