Moodle

Moodle, now in version 1.8 is an open source, high quality, web based, LCMS program. The program is highly expandable with numerous plug-ins available. The system is flexible enough for a small agency with a few students, or a larger department with thousands of students. The program is available for any system that can operate an Apache web server, MySQL database and PERL/PHP.

Claroline

Another high quality LCMS program. This is a solid program that smaller agencies may find useful, as it does not have the steeper learning curve of a program like Moodle. In addition to allowing for the import of SCORM lesson modules, Claroline also allows you to create SCORM compliant lessons from within the program.

Dokeos

A relatively new entry into the open source LCMS field, Dokeos is coming along nicely. Like Claroline, it does not have all of the 'bells and whistles' of Moodle, but is easy to learn and a solid performer. Dokeos is currently at Version *.*

eXe Editor

The eXe editor is an open source, cross platform editor for creating SCORM compliant lessons. It is easy to use, and continues to expand its options. eXe is available for Linux, Windows or Mac
